for Sint-Albert School
made possible by MUS-E & MIVB
Who is who I see what I see is a playful exploration of identity in the city.
Two classes from the Sint-Albert School in Molenbeek discover their own voice, somewhere between fact and imagination. Armed with sketchbooks, scissors, paper and a healthy amount of freedom, they draw inspiration from street life, from the images in their neighbourhood, from the little stories in their heads, or from the eyes of a friend.
Together with MUS-E artist Alice van Innis, they go out into the city -into the streets and the metro- observing and documenting themselves and the world around them. Their perspectives gradually take shape in a series of artworks, presented here as traces of their journey.
The children, aged 8 to 10, were guided by Roald Dahl’s love of eccentricity and by the playful lines and colours of artists like Matisse and Miró. Their works share an authentic, imaginative view of who they are and where they live.
This project is a beautiful example of collaboration in Brussels. It came to life with the support of MIVB and KANAL and was realised by MUS-E Belgium. As a bilingual organisation, MUS-E brings active artistic experience into the hands of children, young people and adults -regardless of background or prior knowledge. Participants step into the world of artists and take part in processes of co-creation, where imagination, experimentation and dialogue are central.
